April 06 3rd Week
April 20, 2006 1:04 amIt’s a simple yet common question, “How can I make my
business more successful?”
Success can mean a lot of different things to a lot of
different people but when it comes down to it, the success
of your business should only be measured by one thing -
profit.
At the end of the day, it’s not how many people that
visited your website. It’s not even how many widgets you
sold. At the end of the day, what truly matters is how much
of a profit you made!
It would make sense then that your efforts focus on profit
as the end result. With that in mind, there are only three
strategies to increase income for your business.
1) Increase the size of each order
2) Increase the number of times people buy from you
3) Increase the number of people who buy from you
Most likely, your business is already primed to attack
each of these three angles and implementing that attack
should be fairly easy.
Let’s say that you are the owner of a website that sells
home made photo frames. Let your customers know that for
every $50 they spend they will receive a free photo frame.
When they are eligible for the free photo frame, offer them
the option of upgrading the photo frame to a more expensive
frame for only a few dollars extra.
You could also implement a customer loyalty program.
Whenever a customer spends $200 with you they receive a 20%
discount on their next order. Show loyalty to your
customers, too. Create customer-only events and sales, even
workshops on how to make photo frames at home.
Photo frames are also popular gifts. Be sure to place your
contact info on each and every frame. This makes it easy
for the gift recipient to purchase from you. Be sure to
also use this tactic when co-promoting with similar
businesses such as a camera or photography websites.
Looking at the example of the photo frames website, the
tasks of increasing profits was not difficult. Truly, it’s
a matter of putting systems in place that generate extra
income without having to drive extra people to your site.
Take a look at your business and examine the systems you
have in place. Chances are there’s undiscovered profits
lying about. Put systems in place and you’ll find your
business reaching new heights of success.
Have a great week

Top 10 AdSense Tricks To Boost Your Commission
By Kalena Jordan
Google AdSense is fast becoming the preferred way for
people to earn an income online. Forget eBay and multiple
affïliate programs. Whether you are a work-at-home mom
trying to make a little extra cash or an Internet
entrepreneur with hundreds of monetized websites, AdSense
is truly the easiest way to earn money.
Simply sign up for a free account, grab your ad code and
paste it in your site. But here’s the amazing thing - no
matter how much money AdSense is making for you right now,
a few simple tweaks can increase that amount considerably.
And I should know, after learning about these tricks, I
more than doubled my AdSense commissions!
The self-proclaimed AdSense gurus and experts are sharing
this insider knowledge, for a fee.
Editorial Note: Some of the website AdSense examples
provided below by the author may have changed since the
article was written.
You can learn all these secrets from them, as long as you
buy their e-book, sign up for their seminar or purchase
their newsletter. But I’m going to share all their AdSense
tricks for free. Here they are:
1) Color code your ads to match your web site palette
*exactly*. Don’t use frames around your ads. Instead, in
the AdSense code generation interface, make sure you choose
the same color as your page background for the ad frame and
the ad background.
When choosing the ad heading colors, match them to the
*exact* color of your page headings. Use the exact same ad
background shade as your page background. Use the exact
same ad text font and color as the text on your pages.
You can see an example of this color-matching on my Search
Engine Advice Blog - notice the 4 link ad unit at the top
and the skyscraper text ad unit on the left hand side under
the heading Ads by Google as you scroll down the page? The
link and text colors are identical to the color palette
used throughout the rest of the page.
Near enough is NOT good enough. If you can’t quite get the
color matching right, use Google’s built in color palette
together with the RGB to HEX or vice versa color converter
on this page - www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/Style. That
handy little tool was a life saver for me.
This is probably the one single tweak that made the most
difference to my commission levels.
2) Try not to use the traditional horizontal banner style
or leaderboard image ads because people are blind to them.
3) Use Google’s own AdSense optimization tips and visual
heat map to assist you in deciding where on your page to
place your AdSense ad code.
4) Research competitive keywords using a keyword research
tool such as Keyword Discovery or grab a list of the most
popular keywords from various sources and use them in your
web site pages where relevant.
Targeting popular keywords should trigger AdSense ads on
your pages that utilize those keywords. The more popular
the keyword or phrase, the higher AdWords advertisers are
generally willing to pay-per-click for it so the higher
your commission on those clicks.
5) Incorporate the AdSense code into your page so that the
ads look like a regular part of your site.
You can get samples, tips, and a full Free Two-Month
Membership in Joel Comm’s Premier AdSense Coaching Club
by clicking here.
6) Use Google’s new 4 and 5 link ad units wherever
possible. They seem to have a much higher Click-Through-
Rate (CTR) than regular ad styles.
7) Place arrows or images next to your ads to draw
attention to them. You can see two different versions on
this search engine article library page -
www.searchenginecollege.com/articles/article-
library.htm - at the top (where a pointing hand directs
your eye to the ad) and the bottom where 3 images draw your
attention to each of the three AdSense ads.
Use the full allowance of multiple AdSense ads on each
of your pages - 3 regular AdSense ads, plus 1 link unit.
Use careful placement of these ads so they blend into your
site and don’t distract from your content.
9) Tailor your page content to a particular niche or
focus. Page content that is tailored towards a specific
theme is more likely to trigger AdWords ads that closely
match the content and are therefore more likely to interest
your visitors and inspire them to clÃck.
Don’t create pages merely for the sake of placing AdSense
ads. Visitors (and search engines) can see through this
ruse in an instant.
10) Use custom Ad Channels for each of your ad placements,
for example, “Top 5 Link Unit Blue Palette” or “Left Side
Navigation Image Skyscraper” etc. Tweak, track and measure
the success of each of these custom channels so you know
what gives you the highest CTR. Some ad formats and colors
will work better than others, but you won’t know which
until you test, test and test some more!

This Week’s Trivia Answer
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Here’s the answer to the trivia question I asked earlier…
What is the Highest Taxed Country?
Denmark is the county with the highest income tax. The top
rate of tax is 68%, with the basic rate starting at 42%.
The tax code in Denmark is very complicated, with income
taxes, work taxes, sales taxes, taxes on “luxury items” and
various taxes that businesses must pay as a percentage of
their salaries.
In return for these high taxes, the Danes receive a wide
range of governmental benefits, including free health care,
free higher education and an extensive social services.

Quick Five-Minute Exercises to Get Tight Firm Abs!
Everybody wants a tight, firm midsection. You can tone
your abs and get rid of that pot belly but there is one
important point you first need to understand.
You cannot spot reduce anywhere on your body. You can spot
tone your muscles in the area you are targeting, but you
cannot spot reduce.
Here’s an example. Look at your belly in a relaxed mode.
Now suck in your stomach muscles.
Your pot belly is pretty much gone. Did you suddenly lose
weight in that area?
Of course not!
The same thing happens when you begin to properly exercise
your ab muscles. The muscles become stronger and pull in
the unsightly girth. Your abs look tighter and you look
better, but unless you have actually lost weight overall,
you have not actually lost any fat in that area.
To lose fat in the abs, you must lose weight overall. To
make your abs look slimmer and sexier, you must develop the
ab muscles.
One of the best pieces of exercise equipment you can
purchase is an exercise ball, also called a swiss ball.
Every time you do exercises on this ball, your ab muscles
come into play. The abs are working to keep the ball steady
and to keep you from falling off.
You can easily do two of the following exercises on the
ball and increase the effectiveness.
1. The Bicycle
This has been proven to be one of the most effective ab
exercises you can do. You cannot do this one on the ball.
Lie on your back with your hands behind your head. Lift
your legs off the ground and raise your shoulders a couple
inches off the floor.
Do not pull your neck with your hands. Push your lower
back tight to the floor. Bring your left leg towards your
chest while rotating your right elbow to touch your left
knee.
Don’t strain. As you return to the starting position,
begin bringing your right knee in and rotate your left
elbow to touch your right knee.
Work up to twenty repetitions each leg. Do them slowly.
2. Crunch
You are probably familiar with this one. Lay on your back
with either your hands behind your head or on your chest.
Legs are in a V-shape with your feet flat on the floor.
Once again push your lower back tight to the floor. Begin
to raise your head and shoulders off the floor, tightening
your ab muscles. Do not pull on your neck. You are only
raising your shoulders a few inches off the ground.
At the top of the movement, hold for about one second,
then return and repeat. Work to twenty repetitions. This is
excellent on the exercise ball!
3. The Plank
Lie on your stomach. Feet are straight and close together.
Push off the floor, raising up on your toes and your
elbows. Keep your back straight and tighten your ab
muscles. Hold for thirty seconds. Return and repeat for
three to five repetitions.
Again, this exercise is excellent on the exercise ball.
Do these three exercises at least five days a week and the
ab muscles will tighten up and you will look and feel
great.
